Des Moines winner of big FAA office bid – Blog – April 2015 – Tacoma, WA

Today, the U.S. General Services Administration issued a notice of intent to award the lease for a new FAA office facility to the Des Moines Creek Business Park, Phase II (at the corner of 216th Street and 24th Avenue South), which is being developed by Panattoni Development Company and is owned by Port of Seattle.

Back in April of 2014, the FAA announced its intent to build a new 300,000 square-foot office space where up to 1,600 people could work, consolidating its four offices in Renton and SeaTac. What ensued was an intense and competitive bidding process that was eventually whittled down to four bidders in March.

In selecting Des Moines, GSA spokesperson Sally Mayberry provided a brief, simple statement.

“The intended awardee met the requirements of the Request for Lease Proposals and provided the best overall value to taxpayers,” she wrote.

The Des Moines Creek Business Park is a multi-phase, 87-acre property that will include up to two-million square feet of flexible-use, manufacturing, office, distribution and industrial business park buildings. The FAA is expected to take up all of phase two of the project.

The GSA is working to finalize the contract as soon as possible, at which time specifics about the location and facility will be available, said Mayberry.
