McKesson to Open Distribution Center in Roseville, Employing About 166

Thursday, October 5th 2017

McKesson Medical-Surgical, a subsidiary of pharmaceutical distributor McKesson Corp., said it plans to open a new medical distribution center in Roseville in mid-2018, employing an estimated 166 people.

The company is expected to start hiring this fall. McKesson (NYSE: MCK) already operates two smaller facilities in the Sacramento area, which will be consolidated into the new distribution center.

San Francisco-based McKesson is ranked fifth on the Fortune 500 list of the largest U.S. companies, and recorded $198.5 billion in revenues in its 2016-2017 fiscal year, which ended in March. The company employs about 70,000 people across 16 countries.

The Greater Sacramento Economic Council, the city of Roseville and Panattoni Development Co. worked for about a year to secure the new McKesson facility at 7701 Foothills Blvd.

“We’re pleased to grow our presence in northern California,” said Brad Hilton, senior vice president for customer experience at McKesson Medical-Surgical, in a statement. “Roseville provides greater access to our customers and key markets and enables the expansion of our private fleet operations in the region.”

The city of Roseville worked quickly to process the permits for the distribution center, completing the process in just over 140 days. The fast clip of development will continue, according to Barry Broome, CEO of the Greater Sacramento Economic Council. Construction has already started on the site to meet the goal of opening the facility in mid-2018, Roseville economic development director Chris Robles said.

Broome added that he hopes the distribution center will help lure other Fortune 500 companies to the area.
